It’s not one of those “regular” (thou, maybe not so regular anymore?) girl-group MV’s, which main focus is either aegyo or sex-appeal, instead they have a hilarious MV and they’re styled in a Super Junior fur hat, sweatpants, oversized t-shirts and sweatshirts. They were styled to look good, not sexy or cute. And personally I think was a smart thing, not just because it suits the song better, but I also think that it can appeal to a larger audience.
The same goes for the lyrics. It’s definitely unique and sort of surprising, but it’s really good, and I think it sort of reflects a person’s feelings after a breakup. Not right after, of course, but after a while, when you start to get over your feelings and realize that you’re off just as well (if not better) off without that person.
Another thing about the video is that it matches the song REALLY well, when they sing about grilling meat there is meat being grilled in the video, and when they sing about cockroaches they have a scene/part of the dance that makes them look like one (or a creepy bug at least).
This song definitely has heavy hip hop influences, and I wouldn’t have minded at all if the entire song had had that sound, but at the same time I think they made a smart move with having the chorus a bit softer and cuter since this is, as I mentioned above, their second song and that way it, again, might appeal to a larger market as it makes the overall impression of the song much softer. And I also think that it was a smart move to not scare the “old” fans away or make them disappointed with the song, since this song is very different that their first song, XXO (Party), which were more of a pop song. It has a very similar feel to the chorus.
The dance is amazing, and suits the song perfectly, it’s fun, weird, cute and most of it is actually kind of simple, but it still looks really, really good. I love the fact that they have parts of the dance that matches the lyrics, like the cockroach-thingy. It feels as if the person who choreographed this dance really wanted to highlight the song, and not just have the group show off with flashy dance moves, like so many other groups in K-Pop.
This song is definitely a song worth checking out, especially if you’re into the hip hop inspired K-Pop. The video, song and dance is amazing. But that’s enough from me, check it out below!
